The college under the Directorate of College Edication, Karachi(DCE) are affiliated with the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi(BIEK) for Higher Secondary Certificate(H.S.C) classes BIEK follows the Annual Examination System. H.S.C programme consists of two years of study. Two examination are given to students to evalute their academic achievement. A H.S.C. Certificate is issued to those who pass the examintion. Based on this certificate and a cumulative marks-sheet, the students can continue their studies in Bachelor Degree programmes in colleges, university or professinal colleges in Pakistan or abroad. This examination is equivalent to A'Level examination offered by the British boards or High School examination in USA.
The student pursuing H.S.C. Certificate have to study three compulsory and three optinal subjects for the period of two years. The compulsory subjects are the following:
Compulsory Subjects:
- Urdu normal/Easy/Non-mother tongue/History and Culture of Pakistan for Foreigners only in class XI&XII.
- English/Advanced English.
- Islamic Education for Muslims/Civics(Akhlaqiat) for Non-Muslims in XI.
- Pakistan Studies in XII.
The Choice of optional subjects is categorical according to the faculty. The students of one faculty cannot choose subjects offered by the other faculties. Very few subjects are common between the faculties.
Faculties and Courses offered
There are six faculties in the college of Karachi, these are as follows:
- Science Pre-Engineering.
- Science Pre-Medical.
- Science General(Computer).
- Commerce.
- Humanities.
- Home Economics(Only for Female students)
The students should be careful in selecting their faculty and relate it to their choice of colleges from the priority list keeping in view the merit of last year admission. Transfer from one faculty to another may imply transfer from college to another, something that is not permitted.

Those who are applying for faculty of Science Genera Group(in which seats are very limited) should give the name of college where science pre-engineering is available so that your faculty can automatically be changed.
