The Board of Secondary Education has approved the outline of the computer literacy course to be introduced in Intermediate institutions during the coming academics session.

According to a senior official of the education department, the course would be taught to the students of all faculties in both parts I and II. Under the outline approved, 60% of the marks would be reserved for theory and 40% for for the practicals.

Another official told Dawn, on Friday, that the Inter-Board Committee of Chairman-the body steering all the testing boards of the country-had recently okayed the idea behind the introduction of computer literacy course in colleges.

"Sindh has taken the lead in this connection," he said. "We are the first province to introduce a compulsory computer course in Intermediate colleges."

"The IBCC has not only praised this, but also urged the testing bodies of the other provinces to launch similar programmes," Official said.

Meanwhile, more than 30 organizations had submitted this bid for setting up computer labs in the 200-odd colleges of the province, said a senior offfcial, on Friday.

The labs would have to be established soon in all the colleges of the province because the education department plans to introduce the computer course in the new academic session.

More than 40 firms had expressed their willingness to set up such labs in colleges, but the bids of only 32 organizations were deemed acceptable, said the official.
